The Olmecs constructed city-temple complexes(group of buildings) at several locations, such as San Lorenzo, La Venta, Tres Zapotes, Laguna de los Cerros, and La Mojarra. They went central Chalcatzingo, far to the west in the highlands of Mexico, to Izapa, the pacific coast near Guatemala, Olmec artifacts has been found throughout Mesoamerica during this time period. In this central area of mesoamerica, the first Mesoamerican civilization emerged 1200–400 BC. -

La Venta was first occupied as early as 1750 BCE. La Venta became an Olmec temple-town complex between 1200 and 400 BCE. This temple-town was the main town for years. -

The Olmec created a calendar t was made about 900-700 BCE. The calendar had 260 days, 13 numbers. But there were only 20 named days. -

The Olmec relied on domestic plants like maize, sunflower, and manioc, and domesticating beans. They ate domesticated meat like dog, ect. People think the Olmec were the first to use chocolate too. -

300-400 BCE is, when La Venta (their leader) went into decline, was eventually abandoned. With the fall of La Venta caused the end of classic Olmec culture. Although the descendants of the Olmecs still lived in the region, the culture itself vanished. (The culture lasted until 400 BCE) -
Frst Time A Olmec Head Was Discovered
The Olmec heads weren’t efficiently discovered until the early 20th century. After Matthew Stirling saw the Tres Zapotes Colossal Head in 1938. José Melgar originally saw the head in Tabasco in 1862. (this should be the earlyest date)
