First Annual Meeting
Due to high demand, group gets together to discuss the possibility of a Yacht Club. -
Idea Fizzles Again
With the invention of cars, the idea of a Yacht Club gets side-tracked yet again. -
Impromptu Meeting takes place, Races are scheduled
A bunch of eager sailors meet at Nita Seeman's cottage on Given's Point (now near OBW) to get this idea back on track. -
A Sunday Series is held through the OYC
At this time, only 3 classes of boats were racing. -
Headquarters are Moved
The OYC is moved to Gull Point State Park Lodge. -
Women Overtake the OYC
During World War II, the OYC is mostly run by girls and young women, famously taking the name of "Okoboji's Women's Navy." -
Permanent Clubhouse is Built
New clubhouse is built next to the New Inn, on Dixon's Beach. The entire building measures 40'x60'. -
Clubhouse is Moved Once Last Time
Clubhouse grounds bought at the present location of the OYC, on South Manhattan Beach. -
Pledge Drive for funds
Over $1,000,000 is raised by avid sailors and enthusiasts in an effort to build and expand. -
Construction is Completed!
Construction of the clubhouse is finished on the S. Manhattan site. -
The Okoboji Yacht Club Now:
The OYC has over 500 members and it contains 65 registered sailboats. It is famous the their popular Friday Night Socials, and they continue to have dedicated support from the people of our Lakes region.
