Circones
In the Odyssey, Odysseus and his men went to the land of The Cicones, robbed it, and took women captive. The Cicones were the first people Odysseus came across after leaving Troy. Initially Odysseus and his crew plundered women and booty from the Cicones, but afterwards the Cicones fought back and forced Odysseus and his crew to flee, after they had lost 6 men from each ship. -
Lotus Eaters
Odysseus and his crew land. Odysseus sends 3 men out to scout but they do not return. Odysseus then sends a search party and it turns out the 3 men ate fruit of Lotus. (makes you forget home and all your worries and you want to stay among the Lotus-eaters) The men then dragged the 3 men to the ship and tied them to the mast by force so they couldn't escape and then landed on the island of Polyphemus, Poseidon's son. -
Escape Cyclops
Odysseus and 12 of his men go to the island of the cyclopes to get treasure and to see a real cyclops. Then they get trapped by the cyclops putting a huge boulder over the exit. One by one he eats the men up until there are only 4 men left and Odysseus. Odysseus tricks the cyclops into opening the door and stabs his eye out. Land of The Dead
Odysseus and his men go down to Hades to talk to the spirit of Tiresias, on recommendation of Circe. Odysseus goes to the River of Ocean and makes sacrifices , as Circe told him to do, so as to attract the attention of the souls. The first soul to appear to him is the soul of the crew member who they had lost on the island of Aeaea, whom pleads Odysseus to go back and give him a proper burial. -
Odysseus Sirens Charybdis
Odysseus has to navigate his ship through the narrow passageway between the sea monster Scylla and the giant whirlpool Charybdis. It was said that to avoid one was to encounter the other. If you avoided Charybdis, your ship would be swallowed by the giant sea monster Scylla, and vice versa. In the Odyssey, Odysseus has his men try to avoid Charybdis, and leads them to Scylla, he loses many men. -
Land of Helios
When Odysseus and his men left Circe and headed for home, they were warned not to harm the cattle of Helios, the sun god. However, when they were becalmed and stuck on the island with those cattle, the members of the crew eventually became so hungry that they slaughtered and ate some of the cattle. Odysseus managed to resist the temptation, with the result that, once the wind came up and they could sail away, their ship was wrecked and he was the only one not drowned. -
Calypso
Calypso seduces Odysseus to stay with her on her island as a love slave for seven years. She's supernaturally hot, so he doesn't put up a fight. Finally, he gets bored and starts to think that maybe his wife will want to see him, so he asks Athena to help him "escape". Athena sends Hermes, who's basically the god who runs errands, to got tell Calypso to release Odysseus. King Alcinous
Alcinous is the king of Phaeacia, and he places Odysseus on one of his magicL ships that finally returns him to Ithaca. Alcinous's wife, Queen Arete, is likewise impressed with the godly stranger, and Alcinous is so impressed that he offers Odysseus the hand of his daughter, Nausicaa, in marriage. Odysseus turns him down, of course, because his only desire is to return to Ithaca and his wife, Penelope.
