King Henry VIII made England protestant

In the 1530's, Henry VIII broke his ties with the Roman Catholic Church and made himself head of the Church of England. However, many Puritans were unhappy with anything other than the complete purification of English Christianity, because they followed the doctrine of Calvinism. Even though England was no longer Catholic, it still followed many of the same Roman Catholic traditions.
