All Students: Access One-to-One Devices
Our district will provide a Chromebook for all fourth through sixth grade students. First through third grade students will have one Chromebook cart per grade level. All kindergarten classrooms will have one tablet per student. As our site leader my first priority will be to facilitate a code of digital ethics supported by our students. -
School Community Develops Shared Vision
Students, staff and parents will unite to create a shared vision with a sustainable plan to prepare our students for college and career. Beginning at the kindergarten level and progressing through 6th grade we will further their access of 21st century skills. -
Digital Portfolios phase out Report Cards and GPA
Portfolios and project-based work, stored and presented online, will be employed regularly for trimester grading and end-of-year promotion decisions. Rubrics will replace the standard A-B-C grading system. Our school has begun this journey with upper grade ‘Project Night’ in the spring with students presenting their work. -
Teacher-Teams and Collaborative Classrooms
As students utilize advanced technology, I want our ‘homeroom’ configuration to evolve into collaborative learning workspaces. I have begun laying the foundation for teachers in common academic grade levels to become instructional teams responsible for all their students instead of the traditional template of separate teachers with 30 students each. -
Classrooms Will Utilize Minimal Paper
Children are becoming adept as early as preschool with tablets and continue to climb towards proficiency in texting and computing. Teachers will display lessons on interactive boards or online, work will be accomplished in cooperative groups on Google drives and students will maintain work on the cloud. Grading will be accessible to students and families electronically in real time. -
Online Courses in Elementary School
Individualized online instruction will allow students to access curriculum areas outside of the teacher’s standard repertoire. Students could access a foreign language, art history or an extended academic project during ‘choice’ times of the day. -
Core Curriculum Books are Obsolete
With the advent of digital readers and tablets, standard books will be unnecessary. Students will have developed proficiency in reading, highlighting and note-taking on electronic books. The district will have systems in place for families without access to the technology. Our school has initiated the first step by creating our first elementary policy for digital readers in fictional text. -
Virtual Classroom Attendance
When students are unable to attend school for short periods they can access the direct instruction portion of the day via any communication system. The teacher’s lessons and classmate discussions are captured in real-time for virtual attendance.
