    This period in time spans from 2.5 million years ago till 8000 B.C. People at tjhis time were nomads because they were always gathering food.They were the ones who invented fire and good thing because they lived during the ice age which spanded from about 100,000 B.C. till 8000 B.C.. Another advancement was having a spoken languag. They also expressed theme selves through cave paintings. They also were the first to use tecnoligy like stone tools and weapons.

    Neolithic times
    After the last ice age ended people made some big changes. They started to domesticate animals and plants.So they didn't have to hunt as much as they used to.They also started to grow food which is what marked the beginning of Neolithic times.This period stretched from 8000 B.C. to 4000 B.C..Historian calls this part in time the farming revolution.The reason why was because this allowed them to start villages and stay in one place.One of the first communities is jericho.

    The earliest civilization was located between the Tigers and Euphrates rives it was later called Mesopotamia by the greeks.It was very arid land so they use irrigation to water their crops and support large populations.This is how sumer came to be. Sumer was composed of city-states which were spread out they often fought.They had built temples for their god called a ziggurat.They also were the ones to develop a written language cuneiform.They also made our nuber system based on 60 and much more.

    Over time summer feal to the Akkadians.The Akkadians came from northern Mesopotamia. Their king named Sargon had conquered all of Mesopotamia by 2340 B.C.. He had set up the worlds first empire.His empire lasted for 200 years.

    Life Of Hammurabi
    Hammurabi succeeded his father when he was a young man. When he became king Babalon was already a major power in Mesopotamia. Wile, he was king though he turned Babylon into a major state. One of Hammurabi major goals was to control the Euphrates river because it was a major trade route and a good source of water but his enemies wanted it to but he defeated them. He then ruled for about 14 years before he became ill and his son took over.

    In 1800 B.C. a new group of people became powerful in Mesopotamia. They built the city of Babylon by the Euphrates river which became a center of trade.Begining in 1792 B.C. the Babylonian king Hammurabi began conquering Mesopotamia and making the Babylonian empire. Hammarani is best known for his laws. He took each law he liked the best from every city-state and put them together.

    1,000 years after Hammurabi a new empire came about It was started by a group of people called the Assyrians.They came from lands north of the Tigris river their homeland was Assyria. Assyria had rich and fertile land which made it attractive to invaders so they built a large army which they later used to conquer Mesopotamia. The Assyrians also had a very well organized government they divided the empire into provinces which had to pay tax. The Assyrians had many rebellions which took them out.

    Iron had been used for tools and such for a long time but it was the people called the Hittites who made it strong. The Hittites people lived north-west of the Assyrian people and they made the iron stronger by heating and cooling it rapidly. This is what gave the Assyrians an edge when they took over Mesopotamia they learned it from the Hitties people.

    They Chaldeans took over in 612 B.C. they wanted to build an empire led by their king Nebuchadnezzar. The Chaldeans were descendants of the Babylonians they rebuilt the city of Babylon as the center of their empire. It soon became the richest city which is why it was surrounded by a brick wall. They also made advancements in science such as they made one of the first sundials.

    There were many tall temples and building in the city but there was one that could be seen from anywhere in Baylon. That was the Hanging Gardens at the king's palace. It had trees, plants, and vines all over it the reason for its construction was the palace the king's wife.

    As time went on they began to lose their power. They found it hard to control their empire and the people they conquered. In 539 B.C. the Persians, a group from the northeast captured Babylon and added it to their new and growing empire.
