In 1950's Bill Bowerman was a track and field coach at University of Oregon who experimented with innovations in running shoes
Phil Knight was a middle-distance runner at University of Oregon, and a graduate of Stanford University with a finance MBA who persuaded Tiger shoes to him him a distributor of their running shoes in the USA.
Bowerman and Knight partnered up on a handshake agreement, contributing $500 each, to purchase an order of 300 pair of Tiger shoes to experiment with. -
