Elie's family and the Sighet Jews deport in a cattle car.
The car is packed full of around 100 people with no bathroom and little to no food or water. -
The cattle car arrives at Birkenau.

Elie is transported to Auschwitz.

Elie's foot becomes infected and he must have surgery.
Elie is sent to the Auschwitz infirmary where he stays until liberation. -
Elie and his father evacuate Auschwitz.
They run from Auschwitz and arrive at Gleiwitz where they begin their journey to Buchenwald. -
The Red Army liberates Auschwitz.

Chlomo, Elie's father, dies.
He dies in his sleep after suffering from dysentery. -
It is announced that Jews will be evacuated from Buchenwald.

American troops liberate Buchenwald.
The Jews were herded toward the front of the camp, and by 6 PM, the first American tank arrived at Buchenwald. -
Elie is free from Buchenwald.

Free Elie is sent to a hospital with some form of poisoning.
