More Power For the Nazi
By now the Nazi have taken power in Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. Now the Nazi's invade Poland and this triggers the start of WW11 -
Deporting
Hitler starts to deport German Jews to Poland and force the Jews into Ghettos. -
Elie meets Moishe
Germany attacks the Soviet Union and Deports more Jews along with creating more ghettos. Elie meets Moishe the Beadle and learns more of his religion at 13 years old. -
"Final Solution"
A plan is revealed that is the "FInal Solution" which plans to kill off all Jews. More Concentration camps are created and many Jews are killed. Moishe comes back after being taken by soldiers and warns everyone of the cruel killings of the Nazi's. No one really believes him and they stay optimistic. -
First Camp
All the jews, after being forced into the ghettos, are forced to walk to wagons. Elie and his family are deported to Birkenau. This is the first concentration camp they experience. When they arrive the women and men are serperated and examined. This is the last time Elie sees his mother and sisters. -
The Punishments Begin in Sighet
In Elie's city, first the Jewish leaders are arrested. Second, Jews are "forbidden to own gold, jewlery and other valuables". Finally, the Jews were all forced to wear yellow stars. After a few days, Ghettos were created in Sighet. Also, at this time Hitler has taken Hungary and deported even more Jews. -
To the Next Camp
After experiencing their first harsh treatment in Birkenau, Elie and his father were deported to Auschwitz. Their first impression was that it was better than Birkenau. This sign they saw when they entered read, "Work Makes you Free". Also, at Auschwitz Elie and his father encounter and old relative, Stein, who asked about his family. Elie lies and says they're save although later Stein discovers they are not alive. -
Buna
Elie and his father are one of the last groups deported from Auschwitz. They arrive at Buna. Elie and his father work in a good Kommando. Here, they had medical check-up and are checked for gold crowns. At Buna, Elie is whipped by a leader and very hurt. Also at Buna, Elie and his father watch many hangings. -
New years
Everyone in Elie's camp celebrates the new year. Elie doesn't feel like fasting or praising his god. It begins to get even colder, and elie hurts his foot. He spends days in the hospital. -
WW11 ends
8 May 1945, German Forces in Europe surrended. Although German forces on the Don, in Russia fought on for 8 years.
Hitler kills many of his soldiers and himself. Axis powers surrender.
Japan surrenders in September 1945, but its 1956 before Japan signs a peace treaty.The war ends, finally. Elie is glad the war is over. They did not want revenge though, not even war, just bread. -
The End
Elie And everyone hear of advancement to the end of the war. They prisioners are forced to march. Many die, including Elie's father, whom dies from disease. Elie escapes, still with little hope in society.
