Birth and Death
Neils Bohr was a Danish physicist born October 7 1885 and died November 18th 1962. -
Bohr Model
In 1913 Bohr created something that was referred to as Bohrs model. Bohrs model showed the structure of atoms but more so that electrons circle around the nucleus of atoms in different energy fields and that the electrons were positively charged. With this positive charge electrons can be added but also dropped. He declared that if a full energy level was dropped a photon was emitted, however this energy did not technically exist unless it was measured and given a numerical value. -
Quantum Theory and Classic Physics
Bohr believed that atoms could only absorb and emit radiation in small spurts while in unstable states, such as during energy level jumps or drops. His findings relate to the philosophy of science because based on this knowledge of particle loss and radiation emission scientist go forward and use this knowledge to help guide their chemical and nuclear experiments. Nuclear physicist study how nuclear energy is created and Bohrs model gives insight into that. -
1939
Bohr and Wheeler decided that reality could only exist in measurements or number and the effects were indefinable. They defined a new model, the "liquid-drop" model which helped to define nuclear fission and uranium-235, an isotope in which constant fission was theoretically possible. -
1962
Bohr passed away in November of 1962. During his 77 years he attributed to some of the more relevant information in relation to chemistry, nuclear physics, and nuclear reactions that are still used to this day. The theories and models he created provide a pathway to further study the elements and define isotopes as stable and unstable. He was a remarkable person with a remarkable mind and provided guidelines and evidence based models that guide new ways of experimental knowledge.
