Hurricane Floyd Hits
I was only 4 when Floyd hit manville. My dad had to leave me and my mom to help the fire department pump basements and go to the rescue squad to help save people from their flooded houses. My grandma's basement was completely destoyed and one of my best friends' house was practically washed away. Even though I was so young I remember walking around Manville afterwards and seeing all of the destruction. So many people lost everything they had and I can still remember the sadness that was left. -
Y2K
I had just turned 5 when the Y2K was supposed to happen. I remember that new years eve my parents had a big party with a lot of people and they were all talking about the world ending and being bombed. I didn't really understand what was going on but after the clocks hit midnight everyone was anticipating something bad to happen and luckily nothing did. My dads friend had said the worst that could happen would be the bombs go of but then we would wait it out. -

George W. Bush Inaugurated into Presidency
When George Bush was inaugurated I can remember sitting with my parents watching him put his hand on the bible and becoming president. This is a big event because George W. Bush is the first U.S. president I can remember being inaugurated. -
World Trade Center Falls
This day had a big impacty on my life because I can remember sitting in my 1st grade classroom and by the end of the day there was only 3 other kids in the classroom with me. When I got home my mom wouldnt let me watch the news with her but I knew something was wrong because my grandpa wasnt home. He worked in NYC and he was fine but a few years ago I found a video he had recorded from that day of the towers smoking and people crying. -

United States declares war on Iraq
The day that the United States declared War on the middle east was a day that freaked me out. Even though the war wasn't in the U.S I didnt feel safe. I thought that we would be bombed again and I think it was because I was still a little scared from the World Trade enter being attacked. -
Pope John Paul II Dies
When the pope died I was with my grandparents. We were watching TV and waiting for the windows to close which was supposed to show that he had died. It was a big deal for everyone and even though my family isn't very religious my grandparents made us go to church with them just because of his death. It was really weird watching his funeral and seeing all of the people crying for him. -

Current Recession Begins
When the recession began I was really scared. People were loosing their jobs left and right and since mom is a stay at home mom and since i was young, i thought that my dad would loose his job and we'd end up on the streets. My dad had 2 jobs and he did end up looing one of them. Even though we were doing ok still. It's such a good feeling knowing that the recession is coming to an end. -
Barack Obama Inaugurated into Presidency
This day was history in the making. The whole school was told to go into different classrooms to watch him be sworn into presidency. I was in my 8th grade science room watching on the smart board. ONce he was offically president everyone was cheering and it was just a fun happy day. -
Swine Flu Outbreak
When the swine flu broke out across the globe everyone was so scared. My mom actually got the swine flu. My brother, sister and I weren't allowed to go near her and she even had to go to the hospital because of it. When the Oplympics took place I remember the people wore masks because they didnt want to catch the flu because everyone thought that once you got the flu you would die. -

Haiti Earthquake
This earthquake was a horrible thing that had to happen. So many people were devistated and it was sad to watch everything that went on. The red cross needed so much help with the disaster relief and some places still havent recovered completely. -

Royal Wedding
Even though I didnt wake up at 4am to watchthe wedding live, I still got to see parts of it and what they did was amazing. This was the first royal wedding that I can remember watching and it was definitly blown up. The paparazzi went crazy over Kates sister. Even today people are still talking about their huge, blown up, wedding. -
Osama BinLadin Killed
When Osama was killed, I didn't know what to think. It was a good think that Osama isn't around any more to threaten the U.S. On the other hand I felt as if his military would be upset with the death of their leader and want to hurt us. Its been over a year and his death has proven to be a good thing. -
Hurricane Irene Hits
When Hurricane Irene hit, Manville was like a big pond. My house wasn't affected by the flood waters but it looked as if we had a lake side house. This flood was worse than Floyd. My family actually left Manville and we headed for Pennsylvania. There was a state of Emergency for almost every state on the east coast. -
