This is an example of Erikson's Intimacy vs Isolation stage. The conflict in this stage is the challenge of forming intimate relationships with others and feeling love. Those that struggle tend to feel isolated and lonely. -
Bearing a New Life: Generativity and Stagnation
The High School sweethearts have been happily together for a few years now, and have been blessed with a baby boy.
This brings them into stage seven of Erikson's theory, generativity and stagnation where the responsibility of caring for a child and how Chris can attribute to the world in a way that benefits others. -
Chris's Departure: Integrity vs Despair
Chris passed away in his cabin, surrounded by what he loved most. It was a peaceful death and he could not have asked for a better life.
This is an example of Erikson's eighth stage. There were ups and downs, but he would not change his past. Chris developed wisdom over his lifetime and believed his life had meaning.
