Federal Emergency Relief Act
Helped the states to provide aide for the unemployment and distributed millions of dollars. -
Agricultural Adjustment Act
This act sought to raise crop prices by lowering the production, in which the government achieved by paying farmers to leave a certain amount of every acre of land unseeded. The government paid cotton growers $200 million to plow under 10 million acres of their crops. Many people were upset and were going hungry, then protested the destruction of food. -
Public Works Administration
Some recieved $3.3 billion appropriation from Congress for public works administration, and created jobs on government projects. -
Civil Works Administration
Civil Works Administration Provided 4 million work jobs for $15/week in the winter of 1933-1934. Some of the CWA claimed that the programs were simply "make work" projects. The CWA built 40,000 schools and paid for salaries for more then 50,000 school teachers in Americas rural areas. -
Securities and Exchange Comission
What does SEC do? Regulated stock market and restricted margin buying. Supervised the stock market and eliminated dishonest practices. -
Works Progress Administration
The WPA was headed by Harry Hopkins the former chief of Federal Emergency Relief Administration. Between 1935 and 1943 WPA spent $11 billlion to employ 8.5 million workers in contruction and other jobs, but more importantly provides work in arts, theater, and literary projects. These workers then built 850 airports and contructed 651,000 miles of roads or streets and put up 125,000 public buildings. -
Rural Electrification Administration
Encouraged farmer to join cooperatives to bring electricity to farms, and despite the efforts by 1940 only 40% of American farms were electrified. Provided afforable electricity for isolated rural areas. -
National Industrial Recovery Act
The NIRA provided money to states to create jobs aint he contruction of schools and other community buildings. It was created to enforce codes of fair competition, minimum wages, and to permit collective bargainging of workers. -
National Youth Administration
The NYA was created to provide education, jobs, counseling, and recration for young people. It provided aide to high school, college and graduate students. In exchange for getting the jobs you would have to work part- time positions at the schools. -
Wagner Act
Roosevelt and New deal Allowed workers to join unions and outlawed union-busting tactics by management. Defined unfair labor practices and established the National Labor Relations Board to settle disputes between employers and employees.
