Civilian Conservation Corps
A public work program that provided jobs to unemployed and unmarried men 18- 23 years old. It was used to build structures outside of cities and created jobs during the depression. It ended in 1942. -
Agricultural Adjustment Administration
Under the United States Department of Agriculture the AAA reduced agricultural production by paying farmers not to plant on part of their land and to kill off excess livestock. By lowering the amount of food in the market, crop prices we suppose to increase helping farmers during the depression. It was ruled unconstautional on January 6, 1936. -
Home Owners Loan Corporation
Under the Home Owners Loan Corporation Act, the government helped refinanced for a longer period of time so the owner wouldn't have to foreclose on it. Allowing people to keep there homes during the depression. It stoped issueing loans in 1936 but still collected payments. -
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
Created under the Banking Act of 1933 it put trust back in the banks during the depression by insuring thier money. It is still used today. -
Public Work Administration
The PWA built buildings in many cities and employied a lot of people. It created jobs during the depression trying to better the economy and improve cities. It ended in 1944. -
Federal Housing Administration
The FHA was created under the National Housing Act of 1934. It created many homes and improved housing conditions. It insured mortgaga loans and stabilized the market. It help strengthen the market during the depression. It is still used today and has helped millions of people. -
Rural Electrification Administration
Operating under the United States Department of Agriculture. Its goal was to provied water, waste treatment, electric power, and land lines to rural farms. This created jobs for many people and the funding and companies still exsits today. -
Social Security Administration
SSA is an indepandant agency that provides retirement funds, disability, and survivors' benefits by collecting taxes. This helped care for people who couldnt work during the depression. It is still used to day and can be collected when you retire. -
Banking Act of 1935
Revising the Banking act of 1933, it made the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation a permanent agency of the United Staes. Also, it established Federal Reserve Board of Governors and streagthaned the banks. Today it gives the public confidence in banks by providing new guilelines to be followed . -
Fair Labor Standards Act
Senator Hugo Black drafted the FLSA to create forty-hour work week, established a national minimum wage, guaranteed time-and-a-half for overtime, and controled child labor. Later this act became the Fair Labor Standards Amendment.
