New Deal

  • Civilian Conservation Corps

    Civilian Conservation Corps
This organization offered unemployed men (18-25) jobs in the forestry field. This was partially to prevent another dust bowl from happening. This helped with some of the unemployment back then, and due to this work, another dust bowl didn’t happen. This impacts our lives today because this preventative measure happened to be very successful.
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act

    Agricultural Adjustment Act
This act payed farmers not to raise certain livestock, raise certain crops, or to produce certain dairy products. This impacted the economy then, while it also effects the economy now. Some of these similar requests are still around today.
  • Farm Credit Administration

    Farm Credit Administration
This group helped farmers refinance their mortgages. This helped farmers avoid foreclosure. This was very helpful to the farmers back then, and nowadays, we have similar groups that help many different people avoid foreclosure. This same group is still around today as well.
  • FDIC

    FDIC
The FDIC provided the government with insurance for bank deposits. This impacted the people then because they now felt better about trusting banks. This same group is still around today, which is why people are still comfortable with trusting banks.
  • FHA

    FHA
The FHA set standards for construction, underwriting, and insured loans. This was very important for the safety of those back then, as well as for our safety and well-being today.
  • SEC

    SEC
The SEC regulated the stock market and helped stop and prevent fraud. This is very important because many people invested money in the stock market back then, and this would help make that more reliable. This group is still around today, which is important for the stock market and to prevent fraud.
  • NLRB

    NLRB
The NLRB organized factory elections by secret ballot to determine whether or not workers wanted a union. This impacted lives back then because work unions could either be beneficial or have a negative impact. We use something similar with elections today, which is very important to how our government runs.
  • SSA

    SSA
The SSA provided some financial security for older Americans, as well as unemployed people. This was important because with the economy on the rise, the money needed to be protected. We still use social security today, which is very important when it comes to income and the economy.
