The compromise of 1850 made California a free state, Slaves were banned in D.C., and The fugitive slave act was passed. This made the balance of slave and free states get out of balance and upset some slave owners. But the fugitive slave act made them happy because it was by law that if a slave excaped then if someone in the north saw them them they had to return the slave. -

Bleeding Kansas was the time period of a series of violent political convrontations involving the isue of slavery. This rose tention in the border state of Kansas and Missouri and caused thousands of casualties. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
The Kansas Nebraska Act opened the lands of Kansas ansd Nebraska for settlement and let them determine slavery through popular soverteignty. This was the first time that the idea of Popular Soverteignty was put into use and it was a form of test run with this new idea. -

This battle took place in Antiemtam Creek in Shaprsburg, Maryland. This battle was just one battle in many major turning points for the Union Army.The battle of Antietam was the bloodiest day in American history. Major win for the Union. -
Emancipation Proclomation
The Emancipation Proclomation freed all of the slaves and was a main reason for the continuation of the civil war. This is remembered in history because all of the former slaves were freed and so they could fight for the Union and help win the war! -
54th Massachusetts Infantry
The 54th was one of the first all black infantry units on the Union's side of the war. It was a huge turning point because now slaves were fighting against their former masters. This made all of the slaves have something to fight for so they fought harder and for a better cause. -
Seige of Vicksburg
It starved the city of Vickburg and made them surrender. The union won this battle and at the same time they were winning at Gettysburg. This really demoralized the Confd. because they got cornered and they got imbarassed. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle that has the most American casualties in the American civil war, and also described as the war's turning point. Union win. This was the last major battle that won the war for the Union side.
