    Went to University College of Fort Hare to get is Bachelor of Arts degree, but was expelled for joining a student protest.

  • Gets Involved in the ANC

    Mandela begins attending African National Congress Meetings informally.

  • Elected President of ANCYL

    Nelson Mandela gets elected as President of the ANCYL.

  • Charged with Treason

    Mandela, along with many other ANC leaders are charged with treason.

  • Sentenced to life in prison

    Mandela, along with other ANC leaders are sentenced to life in prison on charges of treason.

  • Released form prison

    Nelson Mandela is released from prison after 27 years.

  • Wins the Nobel Piece Prize

    Mandela, along with FW de Klerk, is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

  • Elected President of South Africa

    Mandela is elected as the first president of a democratic South Africa.
