Creation of basketball
Basketball was created in Springfield college by an instructor and graduate student james Naismith in 1891. He created it in the winter because it was meant to help players loose fat during the cold winter. link text

13 rules
Creator dr. James Naismith created 13 rules so that teams could have an equal opportunity of winning. The first people to put these rules in play was the Springfield college which later put on newspapers. (https://youtu.be/O8z1Al87sCg) -
1st college game
On this date the first ever basketball game was played which had a huge impact as it was the beginning to this sport. The game was played between the university of Iowa and the university of Chicago. -
First basketball pro game
On this date the first ever professional basketball game was played between Trenton and Brooklyn. This marked the start of professional basketball where players would profit from playing basketball. -
Rules changed
In the original 13 rules you could not dribble nor shoot the ball. Beginning 1910 a player could dribble and not until 1916 a player could shoot after shooting. This completely changed the game and shaped to what basketball is right now. -

As this sport was growing around the world this was the first organization that was formed to make tournaments and make teams. This was big for the sport as it led to bigger recognition and involvement in important competitions like the olympics. -
Introduced into Olympic games

NBL formed
The NBL started with thirteen previously independent teams in 1937. The league began as the Midwest Basketball Conference in 1935, but changed its name in 1937 in an attempt to attract a larger audience. The league was created by three corporations: General Electric, Firestone and Goodyear. -
First game televised
On this date the first basketball game was televised on national television. This game was played in the Madison square where Fordham played against the university of Pittsburgh. This was televised on NBC’s experiment station. -

USA basketball was organized to be able to compete in FIBA competitions and admitted the nba as a FIBA member. -

The NBA agrees to start a women’s national basketball association also called the WNBA. This was important to basketball as it was the first of its kind. -
