    Navigation Acts
    This was when Parliment decided to make a seris of laws on the colonists to make thier exports larger than their imports in order to gain more control and money. The Dutch during this time had had dominated the trade. These laws hadn't been enforced very well. There was a lot of bribary between British and the colonists, as there was a lot more going on.
  • Molasses Act

    This was one of the first major acts placed on the act put on the colonies. To stop trade with other countries, especially France, the created this law that molasses could only be traded with Great Britan, and then Brtian would trade it themselves.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was when the king made an official line on the map stating that the colonists could not go past this line into the new land gained by the British after the war. This made the colonist mad and were shocked they could not use this new land they had acquired. The king had planned to use this land for himself, relatives, and friends. He wanted to show power over the colonies.
  • French and Indian war

    At the end of the French and Indian war, the British had a huge war debt. In order to pay off the debt, the British started taxing the colonies more and more, and enforcing the Navigation Acts more than they had before.
  • Sugar Act

    This law was attempted stop the smuggling of sugar and molasses in the colonies by reducing the previous tax rate and enforcing the collection. This also added several products such as hides, skins etc. to this act.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    This law passed was to regulate the issue of paper money in the colonies. This law banned the minting of coins and issue of official government money in America. Private businesses such as merchants and shopkeepers had to accept whatever payment in any form. Eventually there were different paper bills for different purposes.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This new law extended the previous law. This law required the colonies to purchase stamps for newspapers, pamphlets, posters, playing cards or anything with paper involved.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    The Stamp Act Congress was the first attempt to organize oppostion. Nine out of 13 colonies sent 27 represenatives. Congress approved 13 resoulutions in the Declaration of rights including no taxation without representation. The repeal of the Stamp act took effect in 1766.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act was asserting authority to make all laws binding the colonists. This was the reaction of the Stamp act repeal.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This act was supposed to benefit the East India company by giving them the monopoly of the American tea market. This was veiwed as by the colonist as another form of taxation without representation.
  • Intoolerable or Coercive Acts

    This act was a total of 5 laws together. This was meant to restore the aouthrity by the British in the colonies. This consisted of the Boston Port Act which closed the port of Boston until East India tea compony was repaid for the tea. Massachusetts Government Act, passed trying to control the local government and to eliminate the obstruction of British Laws. The Administration of Justice Act which limited the ability for colonial courts to try aganinst British officials.
  • Intoloerable Coercive Acts continued

    The Quartering Act which mandated colonist to house British soilders. And the Quebec Act which enlarged the boundaries of the Province and passed reforms favorable to the catholic French to boost thier loyalty to the British.
