a fall and a fractured wrist
At Brooklyn Bridge Park, I sat on a railing with a preschool friend. As we waited for our turn on the swings, I decided to hoist myself to the highest railing. The effort ended in a fractured wrist and a treat to Dunkin' Donuts to calm myself down. Now spending most of my days inside, I was able to unleash the artist within me. I immersed myself in the world of reading and drew on every page of my notepad.

the great move and a mouse that knew its abcs
My mom and I moved from Brooklyn, New York to West Haven, Connecticut to care for my sick grandmother. I can still taste the snow and feel the tingle of the frigid night. During the months of transition, my mother enrolled me in ABCmouse to water the seeds of education.

    the second grade
I had always been an avid reader, but the second grade opened new doors for me. It was here that I started reading Harry Potter, Dork Diaries, and splurge at the school book fair.

    fifth grade and fiction
While in fifth grade at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School, I discovered my favorite book ever: Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan. It's a fictional fantasy world, tied in with historical moments: the Nazi regime, the Great Depression, and the aftermath or Pearl Harbor. Three children from different time periods encounter the same harmonica, where three princesses' spirits are trapped within.

    777th
Seventh grade introduced me to The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Socratic seminars. The most influential class I had that year was Social Studies. My teacher treated us as intellectuals; the floor was ours during seminars about ancient history and spirituality.

    hopkins hilltopper
In 2020, I was accepted into Hopkins School for high school. It was surreal; my skills as a student garnered a place at one of the nation's top schools. I was a student at Hopkins until 2022, due to personal reasons. Despite my leave and the school's flaws, I still harbor love for the friends I made there and the experiences I was gifted.

    hopkins english II
Sophomore year English class was a major building block for my writing and comprehension skills. My teacher, Mr. Daniel Drummond encouraged my storytelling and thesis building. He gave meaningful feedback and resources that allowed me to flourish. In that class, I produced work that I still take pride in.

    bennington college young writers competition
My mother always said I had a way with words. Last year, I heeded her praises and decided to participate in the Bennington College Young Writers Competition. I crafted three poems for my submission that followed the themes of my daily life, picture day, and the fleeting nature of time. Although I did not win any awards, the competition taught me more about my interests. Following my submission, I've continued writing poetry and found my favorite poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.

In August of 2022, I became a student at West Haven High School. It's a fresh start, a new slate. I think AP Language and Composition can challenge me in the ways I need, while also preparing me for higher education in the near future.
