    On December 16, 1945 german launched a major offensive of the war 'Operation Mist". And attempt to psuh the allied front line wset northernfrance. The battle was a last ditch attempt by Hitler to split the Allies in two in their drive towards Germany. The effect was “Of the 600,000 GIs involved, almost 20,000 were killed, another 20,000 were captured, and 40,000 were wounded.”
