Coming up with a genre
To start me and my partner decided to choose a genre and then come up with some themes, propositions and ideas for a possible film in this genre. -

Plotting our ideas
Using our mind map we were able to come up with a basic plot and decided to start writing our dieas and plot points down so that we could make a more detailed script. -
A talk with Jan
He gave us a talk about what we should and shouldn't do whilst producing our films. Within this talk he mentioned how themes such as death, insanity, suicide, murder, etc. Are not good ideas as they are too complicated for a short five minute film. Scarlett and I then decided that a horror therefore was not a good idea and decided to go back and start over and instead make a comedy film. -
Storyboards
After we made our storyboards we attempted to pitch them to each other to try and decide which idea would be better for our short film. After much debate we decided that my partners would make for a good short film and so decided to start our research for our film. -

Day 1 of filming
Today was the main day for our filming where we planned to do most if not all of it. By doing it all in one day we hoped to eliminate as many inconsistencies as possible.
I learnt a lot about how to keep continuity and the usefulness of clapperboards today.
Organisation is also important, our camera ran out of battery as we were recording our last scene so we had to improvise by using a phone `which made the footage shaky. -
Day 2 of Filming
We arrived at Budgens at around 10am. We didn’t want to stay there for too long because we knew it would get busier later on and so would be harder to film. Filming didn’t take as long as I thought it would and we ended up finishing around 12pm. I learnt the importance of taking your time since some of the footage felt rushed since we did them some of them in one take. -

Creating a rough cut
Using the footage we had we edited together a rough version of the film which helps capture the general idea of the film. -
Day 3 of filming (Extra and re-films)
After reviewing and editing our film we realised that not only was our film too short but also that some of the shots weren't good enough so we decided to do some re-filming. This weekend we are filming the super market scene again and the following week Scarlett would re film some of the other shots. Since we've already filmed them it shouldn't take very long to replicate. I learnt how to edit using FinalCut Pro, how to edit smoothly using multiple shots and manipulating sound. -

Editing final cut
Once we had filmed extra footage and finished editing our rough cut we needed to edit our final cut of our film with more precise editing and with titles and music. Learnt about transitional editing and comedic timings.
