My Special Education Experience

  • Met Dr. Goldwaser

Dr. Goldwaser gave me my diagnosis when I was a young child. He was a kind man and sought to understand me, not "fix" me.
  • Probably First IEP meeting.

I was not present, but my mother likely had an IEP meeting after I was officially diagnosed to set up my accommodations. She had to fight to have me be included in the classroom rather than separated. This was also around the time we met Deanna, who was an amazing advocate.
  • My mother explains Autism to Me.

My mom used my old Thomas & Friends toys to explain to me that my brain worked a little differently but that it wasn't a bad thing. My "wheels" still worked.
