My Reading History
-
Learning to Read
My mom started teaching me to read with flashcards when I was only 2 years old. -
Poky Little Puppy
This was about the time when I developed a real love for animals. I loved books about animals, so most of the books that I would read had an animal as the main character. -
The Monster at the End of this Book
I became obsessed with books about monsters because of my grandfather's nick-name for me. He used to love reading to me. -
Follow the Monsters!
My grandfather used to call me "Monsterella." My name is Cinda, so it's a play on words with my favorite movie around this time, which was Cinderella. The nick-name is also attributted to the fact that I loved cheese, and "Monsterella" kind of sounds like "mozzarella." -
Those Terrible Toy Breakers
This book was about animals AND monsters, so it really piqued my interest. -
But No Elephants
I really enjoyed this book as a child. It really opened my eyes to the fact that people are judeged because they are different. It made me sad that not everybody was treated the same. -
Pussy Willow
I loved this book for many reasons. The main reasons were that we had a pussy willow tree in our back yard, and that I loved cats very much. -
Where the Wild Things Are
My mom and I used to read this book together. In the middle of this book, the monsters all have a "rumpus" that lasts for four pages without any words. My mom and I would rumpus around the house at this time roaring our terrible roars and gnashed our terrible teeth and rolling ourr terrible eyes and showing our terrible claws. -
The Giving Tree
This was the first book that got me really emotional. It was the first time that I realized that literature could really affect a person. -
Love You Forever
I fell in love with "Love You Forever" in 3rd grade. This book helped me realize how much I really loved my family. -
The Giver
This book is wonderful, even as an adult I have read and reread it. This book really showed me what being human is all about. It's about love, compassion, and emotions. -
Hatchet
"Hatchet" taught me the meaning of independence. It showed me that I couldn't rely on help in all situations. This book made me really think of what I would do if I was all alone, and it really shaped my future and made me a strong, independent person. -
Number the Stars
This book got me incredibly curious about the Halocaust and World War 2. I didn't understand how a person could commit such terrible crimes, all the while thinking they were doing the right thing. Because of this book, I began researching information on my own solely because I was interested, and not because somebody told me I should. -
Harry Potter
Harry Potter was the first book that I read because I wanted to. All of the other literature that I read up until this time was read to me by my mother or an assignment in school. I remember that my mother read it first because of the contreversy about religion and witchcraft in school. After she read the first book she told me that I would probably enjoy it, so I read it and absolutely loved it. -
Eragon Series
This series really opened my mind up to fantasy reading. This book really shaped a huge part of my life, as I have always been really interested in books and games that involve fantasy. -
Hunger Games
This series was very emotional for me. To read about such a young girl going through all these hardships really showed me that I had a wonderful childhood. I cannot even begin to imagine what my life would be like if I was in the main character's shoes. -
Started Work at Local Library
I now work at the local library in Pahrump, NV. I am constantly surrounded by literature and have the opportunity to read whenever we are slow. This job has really opened me up to several different types of literature, and I am enjoying every moment of it.
