Parents read to me at bedtime
Most nights my parents would read me a book. If I was at my grandparents, they would do the same. I loved having adults read to me. -
Book Reports
Read books and completed book reports in fourth and fifth grade. This is a point where I did not enjoy reading. It felt like a chore to me. -
Second Grade Students Read to my Fifth Grade Class
A classroom of second grade students came into our classroom to read to us. They were practicing reading aloud and we assisted as needed. -

The teacher and students would take turns reading aloud a chapter book. We would pause and discuss different topics within the book. -

Read Series of Unfortunate Events on my own. This was my favorite series as a kid. -
Began to Enjoy Reading
While I had a rough couple years with not enjoying reading, in middle school I began to read more and came to enjoy it. I liked being able to pick out a book I enjoy and not reading books in class that I have to read. -
Knew I needed to read books aloud to myself
As a reader, I have to not only read the words on the page, but also say aloud to myself. Being able to say it myself allows me to better process what I am reading. -
Read a book on my own and discussed at school
Instead of reading a book as a class, in High School we read individually, but discussed the book in class. -
Began to see the importance of reading
As I got out of high school, I began to see how reading is essential to learning and growing. This is not only true for students, but adults as well. -
Today I See How Much I Love to Read
I have come to realize that I really do love reading, even if I don't always make time for it. My experiences shaped me into the reader I am today. The struggles were tough and are a part of why I am not motivated to read all the time, but the good times made me see how much I enjoy it and can really get lost within a good book.
