My earliest book I remember reading
The earliest book I can remember reading was the "Pokey Little Puppy."
This was my 'go-to' book that I always asked my parents to read to me. They read it to me so many times that I had the story memorized before I could actually even read the words on the pages. -
First book I read alone
"The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room" was the first book I actually read alone without it being read to me. I was in love with all the Berenstain Bears book series books. I think I owned and read just about every book in the series. -
My favorite School aged Story
I remember my elementary school librarian reading us the "Velveteen Babbitt." I loved this book and was excited each school year when she would bring it back out again. I remember it being so hard to check it out from the school library because everybody scrambled to get it. -
First Novel Series
When I was in 4th and 5th grade my best friend introduced me to the "Boxcar Children" series. I remember snuggling in my bean bag chair and getting lost in their adventures in the box car. I always wished I had a secret club house meeting place with my friends. -
Middle School Reading
When I was in middle school my guilty pleasure reading of choice was "The Babysitters Club." I loved all their babysitting adventures and couldn't wait until I was old enough to star babysitting. At this stage of life I kind of loathed reading and didn't like to sit and finish a novel. I read a few pages here and there and it would take me quite a long time to get through a whole novel. -
Forcing me to Read in High School
I remember in 9th Grade my English teacher assigned us books to read and write book reports on. It was the first time I was ever "forced" to read a book. She assigned me "Anne of Green Gables." It felt like pulling teeth to get me through reading this book. I swore when and if I ever became a teacher I would never force my students to read a book they did not chose. It made the task of reading daunting instead of enjoyable. -
Being Forced Again...Enjoyably this time
When I was in 11th grade my English teacher forced our class as a whole to read "Shiloh." This time I actually enjoyed it. We did activities together as a class and talked about it in book club. We watched the movie after we finished reading the book. It was more enjoyable when we did it together as a class. -
Do I like Reading now?
After high school I never read a book again. Until I had my second child. I was 22 years old, a stay-at-home mom, with 2 kids. We could not afford cable tv as diapers and formula were more important. One day in Walmart they were having a huge book clearance sale. I found this HUGE book that was 2-stories in one binding by an author named "Karen Robards." I read through both books, a total of 1400 pages in a little over a week. It was a murder mystery and I couldn't put it down. -
A Reading Lover I am becoming
I started reading the "Twilight" series and fell in love. I read the whole series in about 3 weeks. I learned I had a passion of fantasy fiction novels and down the path of reading all the fantasy fictions novels I could find. -
More Novel Series
After I finished the "Twilight" series I was craving a similar series. Somebody in one of my college classes referred me to the "Hunger Games." Whoa, what a series. I couldn't put it down. I would stay up until 2:00 and 3:00am flipping page after page. It sucked me in. -
A bonafide lover of reading...I AM!!!!
I officially love reading and can sit and read a good fantasy fiction novel in a matter of a weekend. I have to put myself on restriction from leisure reading during school semesters or else I will get carried away reading for fun instead of to study. I also love the "Divergent" series. Another 4 novel series I found myself not putting down until I read it all.
