My Reading Growth in 7th Grade

  • Summer Reading~/~The City of Ember

    Summer Reading~/~The City of Ember
I would rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars. This book tells the story of two kids trying to get out of their underground city to discover the world above. The book kept on track and didn't go extremely deep or get confusing. It stayed simple and was interesting to read. Most books end on strange and confusing note with no real closure, and this book, for a book with three books coming after it in the series, actually had closure.
  • 1st MP~/~ The Reptile Room

    1st MP~/~ The Reptile Room
I would rate this novel 3 out of 5 stars. This tells the story of how three orphaned kids have to avoid someone wanting to steal their fortune. It had an interesting plot and was filled with quirky dialogue/narration. However, as someone who has read up to the Ersatz Elevator, it does get pretty annoying when up to that book it still has the same format as the second book. I can see someone getting into the series, however, and in no way would say that it isn't a book worth reading.
  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders
I would rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars. This novel deals with the social view on the Greasers and the Socs, poor and rich kids, telling the story from the view from a Greaser. It had a plot that would make you think. Most books are mystery novels or action adventure novels, and while I do like those kind of books, this one was different. It had a plot that dealt with things that some people do go through and some problems teens and young adults do face. I would recommend this book to anyone.
  • 2nd MP~/~The Shining

    2nd MP~/~The Shining
I would rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars. This is the story of a man and his wife and son spending the winter as caretakers at the Overlook hotel. They go through a lot, being isolated with only each other and dealing with the horrors that dwell in the hotel. The story was really developed and made you think. It had lots of detail and kept progression through the story interesting. It had really creepy moments and had interesting subplots.
  • The Maze Runner

    The Maze Runner
I would rate this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars. The plot of this book involves kids being trapped in a maze with no memory as an unexplained experiment with time running out before inevitable death. This book was big on the action adventure and had a sort of mystery element to it, as to why they are in the maze. This book never got dull, boring, or painful to read. Overall, great book.
  • 3rd MP~/~ Jurassic Park

    3rd MP~/~ Jurassic Park
I would rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars. This is the story of a man trying to make his way with two children through a dinosaur-infested jungle and the struggle people go through to get things back in order. It had a fun plot and had really big sciency words, making me feel smart. They covered really interesting points and mentioned some things that I was learning in science at the time of reading, which was awesome. I really liked this book to the point of deciding to read the sequel to it.
  • The Giver

    The Giver
I would rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. This is the story of a boy named Jonas who has to bear the memories of the world before him in a world where people live in ignorance, while he knows the truth. The book was really well organized and was able to stay on track throughout the entire story. It was the ending, which I won't spoil, that made me think, "What? What happens next?" It's one of THOSE endings. Everything else was really good. I would recommend.
