This was established to investigate disloyalty and communism within the US. This became very active during the Cold War to find spies and investigate people, highly correlated to McCarthyism. -
GI Bill
This is a program that gave war veterans and active duty military benefits like education, housing, and very low interest loans. There are going to be a lot of veterans during the cold war that need these benefits to re-integrate into society. -
Berlin Airlift
JFK and the United States send supplies to the side of Berlin still controlled by them. This creates further tension with the Soviets during the Cold War because they could've shot down the US planes at any time. -
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
This was an alliance between the US and other anti-communist countries. If war broke out during the cold war period, this would have been the set of allies that the US had. -

Brinkmanship was a tactic used by the US during the cold war the was pushing all out to the point of war without actually fighting to try to scare off the enemy. -
Warsaw Pact
This was the alliance of communist supporting countries and would have been USSR's side of the war if fighting had broken out. -
Interstate Highway System
Eisenhower's big highway project. This system costs an astronomical amount of money and helps the nation with connectivity and defense during the cold war because of quick evacuation. -
Eisenhower Doctrine
United States will defend nations against communism with military and economic aid. Trying to prevent the spread of Communism. This is part of the Cold War and tries to stop the spread of this form of government. -
Sputnik
Soviet satellite that started the space race. This was one other big part of the cold war where US and USSR competed for domination in space. -
U-2 Incident
This was when the US was flying spy planes in the USSR and got caught. Other than the Cuban Missile Crisis, this was the closest the Cold War came to actual fighting. -
Bay of Pigs
This was when the US poorly trained exiles of Cuba to invade and takeover Castro's Communist government. This created tension with the USSR and now Cuba and probably led into the Cuban Missile Crisis during the Cold War. -
Berlin Wall
This was a wall splitting Berlin physically into a communist side and a democratic side. This was one thing creating a lot of tension during the cold war because this was a physical barrier between US and USSR troops. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
This was a period of time where Russia put missiles into Cuba and had them set up to fire at the US at any moment. This was the height of the cold war. It ended with the backing down of the Soviets because US promised not to invade. -
Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
This was the agreement to ban testing of nuclear weapons above ground, this is why they test these types of weapons in the ocean. This was one example of an agreement that was made during the cold war instead of so much tension.
