The fall of the Roman Empire
Rome reached its peak of power around the year 117 AD under the rule of emperor Trajan. Pretty much all of the coastline along the Mediterranean Sea was part of the Roman Empire. In 476 AD, a barbarian by the name of Odoacer took over Rome. He became king of Italy and forced the last emperor of Rome, Romulus Augustus, to give up his crown. This was effectively the end of the Roman Empire. -

The Tang Dynasty begins
When the Sui Dynasty started falling apart in 618, someone by the name of Li Yuan helped to put a new child emperor on the throne, but Li Yuan really ruled the country as Prime Minister. When the old Emperor Yang was assassinated, Li Yuan then decided he was next in line to be emperor and founded the Tang Dynasty. -

The black death begins in Europe. This disease would kill around half of europes populaition.
The plague was believed to have started in Asia and traveled westward. The disease was carried by fleas that lived on rats. Those rats were then brought to Europe by boat however they did not know about the disease. -

French heroine Joan of Arc is executed by England at the age of 19.
The English held Joan as prisoner. They questioned her over the course of several days trying to find something that she had done that deserved death. They couldn't find anything wrong with her except that she had once dressed as a man. It was declared that's enough to deserve death and announced her guilty. -

Christopher Columbus sets sail from Spain to find America
Christopher spent years trying to convince someone to pay for his voyage. He was able to convince Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain to pay for the trip. He set sail on August 3, 1492 with three ships. The voyage was long and difficult. At one point his men threatened to mutiny and wanted to turn back. Columbus promised them he would turn back in two days if they didn't find land.
