My Family Reads to Me
One of the biggest things that influenced me as a reader was seeing my mom love reading so much. She always had a book in hand and we always had story time at the end of the day...or in the middle of the day...or at the beginning of the day...or all three! -
Find some favorite books
During elementary school, I spend lots of time in the library and find many favorite books including Hatchet, Nancy Drew mysteries, Mandy books, and ghost stories. -
Accelerated Reader
When I was in 5th grade, they introduced Accelerated reader at my school. I started to read for points instead of reading for fun. I racked up a lot of points, but it turned me off to reading for several years. -
Learn to read nonfiction
When I go to college, I really start to learn how to read nonfiction and figured out some strategies that worked for me. -
Passing it on
Now that I have my own daughter, I'm figuring out how to pass on a love of reading.
