My Literacy Timeline

  • Family Time!

    Family Time!
My earliest literacy memory is sitting on the couch with my family while my dad read to us. Every night before me and my sister went to bed, he would read us whatever book we picked out. Usually we would pick a book from the same series of books, we called them "the bear books".
  • Fox In Socks

    Fox In Socks
I used to love Dr Seuss books, all the different rhymes and pictures. I loved one book specifically, Fox In Socks. I loved this book the most because there were so many tongue twisters and complicated rhymes, and I used to think it was so funny when my stepmom would struggle to read it. Me and my sister used to beg her to read it to us, we thought it was absolutely hilarious.
  • Raz-Kids

    Raz-Kids
I remember using Raz-Kids in elementary school. On the website, there was a whole bunch of books you could choose from, in every category and at every reading level. The levels were A-Z, and every time you improved your reading skills you would move up a level. I remember being so proud of myself because my reading level was higher than my friends. And the more books you read, the more points you would get, which you could use to design a robot and rocket ship.
  • Nancy Drew

    Nancy Drew
I used to be obsessed with Nancy Drew books. I would always try and figure the mystery out before she did, it was so fun. Before I was old enough to read them on my own, my stepmom used to read the Nancy Drew books to me and my sister. It's one of the series that made me fall in love with reading.
  • Summer reading

    Summer reading
At the end of 3rd grade, me and my classmates were given a summer reading chart. We were told to write down every book we read, and whoever read the most would get a prize next year. I was so excited because I loved reading, and I wanted a prize. I read so many books I completely filled up the chart, front and back, as well as another piece of paper. That year I mostly read books from the same few series; Junie B. Jones, The Magic Tree House, The Box Car Children, and The Babysitter's Club.
  • Percy Jackson

    Percy Jackson
The Percy Jackson series is honestly what made me love reading so much. I was absolutely amazed when I first read it, I got so into the story that it felt like I was there. It will forever be my absolute favorite series, I've read it so many times and I will still read it now. No matter how old I get, it will always be one of my favorites. The story lines, the characters, and the absolute magic of it all had me captivated. It's the most important memory in my literacy timeline.
  • Harry Potter

    Harry Potter
I first read the Harry Potter series in the summer before 5th grade. I had always wanted to read the books, but they were too long and I did not understand some things. I was so proud when I finally could read them, it was all I did. Everywhere I went I would bring a book and read. It was, and still is, one of my absolute favorite series.
  • The Perks of Being A Wallflower

The Perks of Being A Wallflower
This is the book I read for the summer assignment, and I loved it. It made me enjoy the assignment so much. The characters were relatable, and it made me feel less alone. Each letter from Charlie made me emotional, I even cried reading a few parts. This is one of my new favorite books, and I will never forget it. It was such an amazing book to read.
