Birth Date
I was born in Ireland. Things were hard here. My father was struggling to hang on to his job. My parents could hardly afford food and other neccesities that us children needed. Our house was small, very cheap, but not cheap enough for us. -
Statue of Liberty- coming to NYC
We got to see the statue of liberty once we came to NYC. It bought tears to many of the eyes of immigrants. It bought relief to our faces knowing that it;s a sign of freedom, after all the hardships in our past country. The Statue of Liberty was like a godess to us.

living in a tenement
living in a tenement was like living in a dark cave. Living conditions were repulsive, disgusting. So many immigrants were tightly packed into a small floor. Sharing a bathroom with people you dind't know was gross. It was hard to get around with it being so dark. -
Transcontinental Railroad
The air smelled of liquor, from the men heavily breathing in and out. Working on the railroad was quite the job. We had horrible working conditions. Men would argue with each other, and tried to contol each other. The weather was freezing, and there was heavy snow that was hard to drag your feet through.

Working on a Skyscraper
I was stories high off the ground. winds were raging. I had no ropes to keep me steady. Every step I took on a metal beam, my heart beated faster. I was so afraid I might all ff, and that I might fall to the ground and die. People told me, don't look down, you'll be fine. It's hard to pay attention to that advice.
