Shelby Hay's Timeline

  • Graduated Highschool

I am from a small town in Eastern Kentucky called Louisa. I have lived there my whole entire life, and graduated from Lawrence County High School in 2015!
  • Declared business major

Going into college I felt pressure to declare a major, because I was still undecided. I declared a General Business major in hopes to find something in that field area of my interest.
  • College soccer @ Morehead State University

I received a full scholarship to play soccer for Morehead State University, this was the main reason I chose this school. College soccer at a Division 1 school took a tole on my personal life and school life as well. This wasn't for me.
  • Transferred to Shawnee State University

I decided to transfer to SSU, mainly because I was interested in the Dental Hygiene program.
  • Declared Health Science Major - pursuing Dental Hygiene

After being rejected into the Dental Hygiene program the first time I decided to pursue a Health Science Bachelors degree in hopes of eventually getting into the program.
  • College Soccer and Tennis @ Shawnee : GO BEARS!

I wanted to still play sports, and I needed help funding my college tuition so I decided to play soccer and tennis for the university on scholarship.
  • Quit Soccer and Changed Major to Early Childhood Ed. !!!

Playing two sports, working, and in school became way too stressful for me so I quit soccer because tennis was able to give me the funds that I needed. I also got rejected into the Dental Hygiene Program a 2nd time, so I decided to change my major for a yes, 3RD TIME!
  • Decided to pursue Dual License ECSE

I've always known I wanted to be a teacher, it is the only thing I could ever really see myself doing. I was just deterred away from it by so many people that cared about me closely. I decided to follow my heart and pursue the dual license program here at Shawnee!
  • Shawnee State CLC

I was informed about the daycare on campus, and applied for a job in hopes to get some experience working with young children. I got the job and I mostly worked in the infant room!
  • Behind Schedule so Summer Classes it is :)

At the end of the school year, I reviewed my study plan and decided I didn't want to go an extra semester to complete my degree. I sat down with my advisers and we came up with a plan to have my graduated in two years, which included summer classes :)
  • Phonics Class!

I am excited about learning new things in this class. As an early childhood educator, in hopes of working with kindergarten or 1st grade students it will be very important that I use the information i learn in this class to help introduce reading to my future students.
