My Journey to The World of Educating

  • My first breath of air.

I was the youngest of 3 children and my family of 5 lived on a farm near the small Ukrainian village of Andrew where I spent my years growing up till I left home.
  • School begins.

My schooling from Kindergarten to graduation was all at Andrew School.
  • Graduation from High School

During my high school years I had 2 of probably the most influential teachers I have ever had.
  • Unsure what to do with life extra year of school.

After graduating I didn't yet know what I wanted to do in life. I upgraded a couple of my grade 12 classes to obtain, what was at that time, my Advanced Diploma.
  • Red Deer College - Early Childhood Development

Being with the really little people was a lot of fun and I loved it. The program I was in and some of the instructors that I had though, made this year a little challenging and I didn't do as well as I should have. There really is something to be said about doing well in something you enjoy and with a teacher you like.
  • Red Deer College - Teacher Assistant

Year 2 in college was much better and I liked the classes and all the instructors. Transitioning to working with children with special needs was the right decision for me.
  • Daycare - My first job with children

  • Children's Services Center

I began working at Children's Services Center, now Aspire, as a child development facilitator with children with special needs in a play school setting. This is where I began to learn the importance of learning through play.
  • My First Job As An Educational Assistant

Following along with the pre school student I had been working with, I began my first job as an EA in kindergarten with Red Deer Public Schools.
  • Returning to work

After being away from work for a few years as my family grew by 2 children, it was time to return to what I loved to do. While being at home with my children and running a day home was amazing, when both of my kids were in school full time, I needed to be too. So back to Red Deer Public I went into a grade 3 class. From there I went to Kindergarten and PreK, then I went to a K-8 school where I was able to be in every class and grade over the 6 years there.
  • Back to RDC/RDP

After reviewing my PGP at work, I made the decision to go back to school to become a teacher. I was actually thinking about taking clerical classes and potentially working in the office at a school when the teacher I was with began the discussion of going to school to become a teacher. I thank her every time I talk to her.
