Opened Edublogs Account
My First Ever Blog Post
I started a blog (global-audience platform) for an audience of my students. I don't remember what I knew about blogging when I started, or why I chose this platform for my publishing class. Total novice! -
Opened a Twitter Account
Interesting that I started blogging and joined Twitter at about the same time. I never even gave it a thought that they could be used together to build a PLN. No concept of a PLN at that time. I joined Twitter because my niece was going to use it to give us updates of her pregnancy. -
Brenda Told Me About Twitter
Brenda and Mary came back from ITEC excited about all the online learning going on. I remember when Brenda said, "Why didn't you tell us about this? You've been blogging for a year." I distinctly remember there was nothing to tell. My blogs (mine and my students) were just a place to keep our writings and artwork. We had no audience except each other. I dusted off my Twitter account and started joining. First Glogster, Prezi, and kept on going! -
Quick Stepping to a PLN
Kick Start Your Blogging Challenge I went to a conference and listened to Angela Maiers challenging us about our digital footprint, connecting and being geniuses. "You are a genius and the world demands your contribution!" AND I participated in Edublogs Teacher Challenge "Kick Start Your Blogging." After a year of blogging solo, I realized what blogging could be! Two life-changing events! -
Starting to Get It!
June 1 Photo Sheri Edwards invited me to join the Flickr Photo Group #JJAProject. The next day I took my first picture in a long time! It was a stack of books I was reading that summer. After just a few days, I had a huge "Aha!" moment! I began to connect wih other teachers. I created, contributed, connected. I even began to feel like I understood what people meant by a PLN. -
#Genius Hour
Genius Hour Wiki
This was the first time I moderated a chat. Thanks to @Gallit_Z who invited me to be co-moderator of the #geniushour chat and wiki. I met @JoyKirr, ball of fire and fellow middle school teacher. I think I began to realize I could be a leader at times for others in my PLN. -
Sharing My Genius with the World
Genius Quote
Now, I understand! I am no longer just a consumer. I am a contributor, unafraid to say I am sharing my genius with the world. I add photographic artwork with CC licenses to Flickr, use what I know about Google maps to add a participant map to the Global Read aloud, help others reach their goal, write guest blog posts and lead presentations. All because of my PLN!
