  • My Sister Arrives

My sister has written to me. She has finally arrived in America and her letter is filled with descriptions of the wonderous exeriences she has had. Nothing has ever sounded so appealing to me in my lifetime.

    Kicked off of Our Land*
Forced off of our own land! Have you ever heard of such audacity?! We even put up a fight but in the end we were still the ones who ran away. There's no sense to stay in a place plastered with posters bearing our faces on it. I just hope America is as wonderful as Severina says...

    American Experiences*
We landed in America a few days ago, and we are settling in the busy city of New York. We think we're doing fine until someone robs us, taking away the little money we have along with jewelry. Thankfully I brought our family broach and sell it in order to make money. However, letting go of that broach was just like letting go of my dear grandmother, who was the one to pass it down to me.

    Citizenship
Thanks to a long year of constant studying, we finally passed the citizenship test and were sworn in today. It is the most wonderful feeling to be American, like rebirth.

    Our Journey West Begins *
We have worked for two and a half strenuous years, finally making enough money to get ready to head west. We also sign up for the Homestead Act; which states that if we can stay on 160 acres of land and maintain it for five years, then we get that land for free. Thankfully the Homestead Act gave us a reason to go west.

    Kickapoo Land Run
We have arrived west a few days ago and today was the Land Run for land in Kickapoo, Oklahoma. We narrowly missed multiple accidents and we have gotten a perfect plot of land with tall greeen grass and nutrient-enriched soil. God bless America.

    Reminiscing
Its hard to think that its been over a year since we have started our farm. We are doing well and not a moment goes by that I don't thank God for bringing us to this magical place. I look back at our beginning in America and I am so glad we perservered through the hardships, still holding our heads high.
