The first step
The first time I started to pronounce letters I was reading off these small colorful blocks that I got for my birthday. There was a colored block for every letter. Soon after I started to pronounce each letter I started to form words such as cat and dog. -
The hungry caterpillar
The first book i read was a book by the author Eric Carle. The book was called the hungry caterpillar. I remember being so fascinated with the illustrations of the different foods there were that the caterpillar was eating. -
Mrs.Hill
I remember the teacher that made me enjoy reading as much as I do. Her name was Mrs.Hill, she was my kindergarten teacher and I remember when she asked if I liked movies and of course I said yes. She explained to me that reading is the same thing as a movie except I have to use my imagination and picture myself in the scenes of the book that I was reading. -
Junie B. Jones
When I got to second grade I read my first chapter book and series. That book was Junie B. Jones the first grader. I remember I loved the series so much that my mom bought every book in the series. I also felt so grown up for reading a chapter book. -
World War 2
I remember in fourth grade I started to read nonfiction books. Towards the end of the school year my class started the world war 2 topic and I vividly remember being so fascinated with world war 2. I loved how there were so many different parts of the world that had different perspectives on how they were effected. -
caring cougar
After fourth grade I moved onto Carrigan intermediate school. In 5th grade every month a student would get picked to be a caring cougar. It was an award for students who showed hard work and kindness throughout the school year. I ended up getting this award half way through my 5th grade year and it motivated me to keep up my high leveled reading. -
regaining my love for reading
After the 5th grade I ran into a terrible tragedy. I had teachers who kind of made me care about reading. these boring books were forced upon me and we got loads and loads of book work and after that I didn't really care that much to read the way I used to. But when I reached 8th grade i ended up getting a teacher named Mrs. Brockett she showed us poems like Edgar Allen Poe and she was so exuberant when she taught. After having her I decided to start reading again and i finally enjoyed it. -
getting into Notre Dame
When the idea of high school came up to me i didn't really want to end up at West Haven High School so i decided to go to the prep school Notre Dame. However it was my amazing reading and writing skills that got me put into high honor classes at the prep school. This was the best decision for me giving me the opportunity to read my favorite book The Count Of Monte Cristo.
