First day of PreK!
For PreK I attended Glenwood Christian School. My teacher Ms. Sandra became family. At this time my mom was working a lot so I stayed with my great grandparents. We realized quickly my grandfather had early Alzheimer's. He would forget to pick me up and I would wind up going home with Ms. Sandra at least three days a week. It became a routine and I'm so very thankful I had her. I knew he was sick but having her there to keep me occupied help a lot. -
First day of Kindergarten at Glenwood Elementary!
I moved from Glenwood Christian School to Glenwood Elementary school for Kindergarten. Me and my best friend Hayes both moved schools together. I think our move together made us such good friends because we are still friends to this day. I had Mrs. Wilson for a teacher who was also my little sister and little brother's teacher. We have a joke if I ever have kids she will have to come out of retirement to be their kindergarten teacher. -
6th grade graduation from Glenwood Elementary!
Graduating sixth grade meant we got to be in the high school building the next year. My classmates and I thought we were it walking through the gym to get our "diplomas." I was so nervous to move buildings. The change was a scary transition to process and with the new building came new classmates. Our high school was two schools combind, Glenwood and Amity. That also made me nervous. -
Moved to the high school for 7th grade to become a Centerpoint Kinight!
I thought having new classmates wasn't going to be any fun. I was wrong! My new classmates made seventh grade the best year. Us girls on the basketball team all had English together. The English teacher was also the football coach, Coach Mounts. He told us on the first day of class that people were stupid. He said when you write you have to tell them what you are writing about, then write about it, then tell them what you just wrote about. I'll never forget him saying that. -
Moved to Kirby Highg School to become a Kirby Trojan!!
My family moved towns and I had to move schools. I thought going to seventh grade was hard but going to a completely different school with people I'd never met before was way more scary than switching buildings. Here at Kirby I had the best high school experience. I made friends from classmates and teachers. My math teacher Mr. Putz always said he would buy us breakfast if we would get up at 5 AM and meet him at the Quik Stop. Since that day I have always considered Mr. Putz a friend. -
Won the 1A state women's basketball tournament my junior year!!!
My junior year of high school was the best year! My basketball coach, Coach Tucker led us to a state championship. The only one my school has ever had and has had to this day. Coach Tucker taught us girls more than how to play ball. He made us better people. He taught us about life. This same year he won Coach of the Year and he desires every bit of it. Although we didn't always see eye-to-eye I am so thankful to have had him as a coach. -
Graduated HIGH SCHOOL!!!
High school graduation was so bittersweet. I think I took it for granted sometimes. Withouth high school I wouldn't have became the woman I am today. Although life is not as easy as high school the things I learned throughout my time there still helps me out today. It wasn't just about learning in the classroom. -
Started first day of college at National Park Community College!
I decided to go to National Park because I wasn't ready to go off yet. I was still a baby and wanted to be close to my mom. Here I met Dr. Cook. He was my Comp I, Worl Lit I&II, and Western Lit teacher. I think the man is a genious. He was so passionate about what he taught and it made me want to learn. I loved hearing him lecture and I enjoyed working for him. He made me want to come to class. -
Started at Henderson State University to pursue my career in Middle School Education!
After two years at NPCC I decided it was time to make another move. I went to Henderson State University for teaching. I was accepted into their teaching program so I began taking education classes. During this time period I became depressed. I was in a really bad relationship and it made me resentful to everything. I didn't do well in school because of it. Thankfully I got out of the relationship in time to get my grades back up to normal. After this I realized teaching was not for me. -
Decided HSU wasn't for me and went back to NPCC to pursue my career in Social Work!
I went back to NPCC for one last semester. This was a time period where I took a lot of different classes to find out which one was for me. I'm so thankful I had this semester to figure out my plans. I'm also thankful for NPCC. Without the time I spent here I never would have realized what I was meant to do in life. Certain staff members helped me more than I could have ever imagined. -
Started at UALR!
My first class here at UALR was Elementary Spanish II. I hated every moment of it. I didn't like the professor and I didn't like the way she taught. At this point after switching from one school to another and back I was very nervous about my future. -
Started the BSW program at UALR!
I was very leery about continueing my education here at UALR after my spanish class. I started taking social work classes this semester and fell in love with it. I'm so excited to embark on this journey to became an LCSW. I'm thankful for all the rough patches I went through to get here. Pursuing my career here at UALR was the best decision I ever made.
