    Lilfe(Tim and Sam's father) kicks Sam out of the house. It is important because it shows how the talk about war has pushed him to his outburst. It shows how even the discussion of war has ruined Sam's and his father's relationship.

    Sam tells Tim that the reason he's wearing the uniform is because he's joining the war as a Patriot, which can start problems since his father is a Tory. He also tells Tim he's going to steal Old Bess, he makes Tim promise not to tell father about it. This is where the war starts to tear this family apart.

    Rebel leaders cut Life because he didn't believe him when he said his son had it and was a Patriot soldier. Sam sees father and runs away.

    Food was scarce and it forced Tim to raise prices at the tavern. They can end up poor without food they lose business at the tavern.

    Mr. Heron has Tim deliver some "business letters". It could contain information that could put Sam's life at risk, but instead it was a test to see if Tim would be reliable to him.

    Tim and Father encounter some cowboys (thieves). They could get robbed and they won't get the money for their goods, that affects their lives because they need money to survive.

    Tim gets the wagon home by himself. He changes, he feels more grownup and without Father and Sam he is more like the man of the house.

    Chapter 10
    The British come and take Mr. Rogers, Captain Betts, and Jerry Stanford. Tim could lose a friend and he can see how the war has affected many people's lives.

    Life dies on a British prison ship. Tim loses his Father and with Sam gone really is the man of the house. He has to do everything for himself.

    Sam returns to Redding. Tim is reunited with his brother after about 3 years.

    Sam is accused of being a cattle thief. He could be put to death and Tim can lose his brother after just being reunited with him after 3 years.

    General Putnam had refused their plea for Sam's innocence. Sam is put to death by getting shot and Tim witnesses losing his only brother.
