My Academic and Professional Timeline

  • Graduated High School

I graduated from University High School in 2010, with little to no clue on what I wanted to major in, and elected to go the direct connect route, attending Valencia and transferring to UCF.
  • Started College at Valencia

I enrolled at Valencia with the intention of being a Criminal Justice major, with a focus in forensics, but after taking a couple of introductory courses on the topic, I then shifted my focus to Computer Engineering.
  • Started Working at UCF Card Office

While attending Valencia, and having my eyes set on transferring to UCF, I applied for a part-time job at UCF. This job didn't have anything to do with my major or future career plans, but it did help me down the road when applying for other jobs within UCF.
  • Transferred to UCF

Upon receiving my associates from Valencia, I transferred to UCF, and got started on my bachelors the very next semester. Although I came to UCF with a plan to pursue a Computer Engineering degree, after consulting with advisors, and thinking about what I really wanted to do with my degree after college, I decided to make the shift to Information Technology.
  • Started Working at Webcourses@UCF Support

As mentioned earlier, although my previous job didn't pertain to my major, the familiarity I had with UCF helped me in getting my next job at the Center for Distributed Learning, with the Webcourses@UCF Support team. Although I initially saw this job as just an opportunity to get some experience in my field of study, it quickly turned into an interest that I saw myself pursuing further and as a career.
  • Graduated from UCF

    Graduated from UCF
I graduated from UCF with a bachelor's in Information Technology, and transitioned to a 40 hour OPS position with the Webcourses@UCF Support team. Since I was still considered OPS, I was working full-time, but not getting the benefits of a USPS or A&P position. As much as I enjoyed the field I was in, and the work that I was doing, it drove me to look for other opportunities.
  • Left Webcourses@UCF Support

With no opportunity to shift into a full-time position with benefits, I accepted a support position at L3 Mobile Vision, serving in a more traditional IT role, providing support for software and hardware technologies.
  • Returned to Webcourses@UCF Support

Although things were going well at L3 Mobile Vision, and I had recently received a promotion, I had also missed what I was doing in the educational technology field at UCF. Shortly after the promotion, I got a message from a friend that a full-time supervisory position had opened up on the same team that I had left. I wasted no time in applying for the position, and was fortunate enough to interview and receive an offer. I happily accepted and returned to the Webcourses@UCF Support team.
  • Got Married

    Got Married
With where things were for both my wife and I, in both our personal and professional lives, we felt like the time was right to get married. We had both finished our undergrad (she actually had her master's already), and while I still wanted to get my master's, she also wanted to work on certifications. We decided to get married, settle in, continue our education, then go from there.
  • Enrolled in the ID&T Master's Program

With a stable job, it seemed like an opportune time to pursue my master's. With the experience I had gained in the educational technology field, I decided on the Instructional Design & Technology program at UCF, with a focus in eLearning. Not only was it fully online and conveniently fit my lifestyle, but it was a field that I had grown fond of over the past few years. I look forward to seeing what I can learn in this program and where it will take me in the future.
