    Manifest Destiny
    The Manifest Destiny was when a lot of Americans believed that it was their mission to expand west across North America. Many Americans saw the benefits to this expansion was economic wealth and opportunity.The expansion also caused a lot of disputes with the Native Americans and the Mexicans over land.The Natives were made to be pushed back until the US government put them on reservations and the Mexicans were made to give up Texas.The picture shows many settlers heading west.

    In 1830 The Indian Removal Act took place granting Andrew Jackson the permission to take Native American land by any means necessary.This also declined the population of many Native Americans and the remaining were forced on reservations where they were ignored by the US. government after so many years.The Natives that suffered were the Cherokee,Choctaw,Muskogee(Creek),Chickasaw, and the Seminole. The tribes were placed in a now Oklahoma.The photo is of Andrew Jackson during his presidency.

    Mormonism is the religious practices of The Church of Latter-Day Saints.The churches founder was Joseph Smith and the founder of the New Testament to Jesus Christ in which the religion is based off of.The story on how the Mormon religion got started is that Joseph Smith went to the woods to pray and then a pillar of light came down and God and Jesus gave Joseph Smith golden tablets,and in hieroglyphics it contained the New Testament to Jesus Christ.The picture shows the Mormon bible.

    Joseph Smith is the founder and president of The Church of Jesus of Latter- Day Saints.When he was leader of this church he gained over twenty-six thousand followers.How he found the religion was in the woods when he claims that Jesus and God came to him on a pillar of light and gave him two golden plates giving him the new Testament to Jesus Christ.After this it took him months to translate the plates then he wrote the book of Mormon in 1830.The picture shows his interaction with God.

    Trail of Tears
    The white settlers wanted to expand towards the west to conquer the new frontier. Nearly 125,000 Natives were living there, they did not want to move out because their ancestors lived there for generations.The white settlers did not care about them, so they made them get out on a dangerous journey known as the "Trail of Tears".The" Trail of Tears" is a 1,200 mile journey towards present day Oklahoma,during the trip thousands of Native Americans died.The picture shows how they're being treated.

    The Alamo
    During Texas' war for Independents from Mexico, a group of Americans and Texans were set up in a fort called the Alamo. In February 23, 1836 a force of Mexicans attacked the fort out numbering the Texans in the Alamo, but the Alamo's 200 Texan soldiers defended the fort for thirteen days before the Mexicans finally took it. After the battle it gave courage to many Texan soldiers that would later take Texas that year.In the picture it shows the ruins of the Alamo after the battle.

    Brigham Young (in relation to the Mormons)
    Brigham Young joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832.He became the leader of the church after the assassination of Joseph Smith in 1844.He directed thousands of Mormons from Illinois to Utah in 1856 and became governor in 1851.He was also for Westward expansion and contracted for the railroad and the telegraph.Brigham Young also beloved in plural marriage and had 20 wives and had 47 children.Young continued to be president until his death in 1877.

    The Mexican War lasted between 1846-1848 and the war was between the U.S. and Mexico.The wars main cause was that the U.S. had a "manifest destiny" to spread their nation to the Pacific Ocean, and to conquer the continent.The war was one by many U.S. victories along the Rio Grande (the Mexican border).Eventually the U.S. won the war getting present- day California, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.   • Donner Party

    Donner Party
    In 1846, a party of ninety ventured from Springfield to California, by Jacob and George Donner. The group tried to take a shorter route to California, but took many set backs and got trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.The Donner Party ran out of supplies and resorted to cannibalism and less than half of the party survived the journey, but became wide spread to people going West. The picture shows the struggle during winter the Donner party had to go through in the Sierra Mount. in Nevada.
  • The Gold Rush

    The Gold Rush
    The discovery of gold in Sacramento valley sparked a phenomenon called the Gold Rush in January 24, 1848. The Gold Rush shaped much of the nation and the population increased from 1,000 to 100,000 of non-natives in the California Territory.The total amount of money all together was estimated to around two billion dollars worth of gold from the Gold Rush, in that area.The Gold Rush ended at 1852, when many settlers began to see loses.The picture is an advertisement to the Gold Rush.
