    This was a war fought mainly between China and Japan that followed the first war between them. China had help from Germany, the Soviet Union, and the United States. This war then became known as the pacific war after Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese.

    The Jews in the ghetto refused to be moved to a concentration camp so they fought back. A Nazi commander then authorized that the ghetto be set on fire. This was the largest single revolt by the Jews in ww2.

    Soviet Union soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camps in the final stages of war. Majdanek was the first camp to be liberated. Later auschwitz was liberated and hundreds of Jews were found in poor condition.

    Code name for a series of strategic bombing missions. The allies bombed the city of Hamburg. Many civilians were killed and it created one of the largest firestorms to date.

    This was the largest seaborne invasion ever to take place in history. This operation began the liberation of northwestern Europe. This contributed to the allies won of the western front.

    This was a major German offensive campaign on the western front. This was a surprise attack that caught all the allied forces off guard. The U.S. Had the highest casualties for thus battle in the war.
  • Operation Thunderclap

    This was the code for a cancelled attack on Berlin. It was later decided that the plan would likely not work. The plan was reconsidered and rejected again later in 1945.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    This battle took place on an island where the U.S. Marines captured the island from the Japanese. The goal was to capture the whole island including the three airfields. This would provide a staging are for attacks on the Japanese main islands.

    This was a series of battles on the ryukyu islands. Centered on the island of Okinawa, this was the largest amphibious assault of ww2. After a long campaign of island hopping, the allies planned to use Okinawa for attacks on Japan.
