Moon Landing
I watched the moon landing on TV - (and on my front porch because my brother convinced me I could see them through his boy scout binoculars) -
Pocket Calculator
This was the coolest thing! We could spell hello by typing 0.7734 and turning the calculator upside down -
VCR
Teen parties went from socializing and dancing to popcorn and movies -
Pong!
This was the coolest game. I think I played it for house in my friend's basement! -
Xerox Personal Computer
My mother worked at a bank, and they had one of these. It was remarkable. I had only seen computers that took up a whole room, this one was desk sized (it didn't actually fit on a desk, it was a desk, but still) -
Walkman
A cassette player we could carry with us. I remember the first time I had one, I yelled at the people I was talking to because my music was loud. They laughed hysterically because I wasn't the first one to do that. -
Sony Camcorder
No more need for home movies that needed to be developed and shown on a projector -
Modem
I taught a class at Olympus Jr called World Telecommunications. Through that class I was introduced to the World Wide Web. I had a 2400 baud modem - state of the art - at home and it would take only about 30 minutes to load a full color web page. (much better than the 1200 baud modem I had before) -
Cell Phones
I had to buy a new purse that was big enough to hold my cell phone -
DVD
Woah! DVDs! I had to replace all my favorite movies with DVD (and again with BlueRay)
