  • MILITARY

    MILITARY
The Navy, Infantry and Air Force are all merged to create the Canadian Forces. I chose this moment because the military is an important part of Canada because it is used to serve & protect Canada and it's citizens.
  • HEALTH & MEDICINE

    HEALTH & MEDICINE
Canada's new Health Care becomes Law in Canada. I chose this this moment because it helps provides 50/50 cost sharing for provincial/territorial medical insurance plans for Canadian citizens.
  • WOMEN

    WOMEN
The birth control pill was illegal in Canada until a Trudeau government bill was passed by Parliament and after years of effort the birth control pill was finally legalized and made available for women in Canada. I chose this moment because if a woman didn't want to get pregnant but she didn't have anything that would make her not be able to get pregnant so they had no control over their body, but when the pill was released women had a choice.
  • HUMAN RIGHTS

    HUMAN RIGHTS
Changing much legislation of the past, the Liberals make it so that they have decriminalized homosexuality in Canada. I chose this moment because all Canadians should have equal rights, protections and benefits and that includes the right to not be discriminated based on your sexuality orientation.
  • SPORTS

    SPORTS
Terry Fox started his run called "Marathon Of Hope" in St.John's Newfoundland. Terry did this run because he wanted to raise money for cancer research and awareness. I chose this moment because, because of Terry Fox and his goal to raise money and awareness for cancer research, there is now a Terry Fox Research Institute, In Vancouver. It opened in 2007 with $115 million.
  • FIRST NATIONS, INUIT & METIS

    FIRST NATIONS, INUIT & METIS
On this day, National Aboriginal Day (now known as "National Indigenous Peoples Day") was created, and it celebrates the history and ongoing contributions of all Aboriginal peoples in Canada. I chose this moment because in the past indigenous peoples have been mistreated and hurt even though they were the first to discover Canada. This day celebrates Indigenous Peoples and their history, which is how they should be treated, with respect and care.
  • MUSIC

    MUSIC
Céline Dion is a Canadian singer. She is from Charlemagne, Quebec, Dion became a teen star in her homeland with a series of French-language albums. Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" is the ninth-best-selling single worldwide by sales (18 million). I chose this moment because Celine Dion is the only Canadian artist that has a song in the top ten best selling singles of all time. Dion's success has paved the way for many young Canadian artists now. Like Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber & more.
  • MOVIES

    MOVIES
Nia Vardalos rom-com is the top-grossing Canadian film of all-time. Filmed in Toronto, the Manitoba-born Vardalos and even picked up an Oscar nomination. Its box office total was $240 million. I chose this moment because it is important to have a good representation of people from different countries making movies and being in movies so the audience could relate to the movies. And having Canada on this list shows that Canadians can make great movies too.
  • TELEVISION

    TELEVISION
Kim's Convenience is a Canadian television sitcom that premiered on CBC Television in October 2016. The series is about the Korean Canadian Kim family who run a convenience store in a neighbourhood in Toronto. It is the first Canadian sitcom to feature Asian Canadian family members as lead characters. I chose this moment because I believe it is important to have asian represntation in shows and movies. Canada is a diverse country therefore it should have diverse shows and movies.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA

    SOCIAL MEDIA
At one point, Facebook was the most popular social media app with 84% of Canadian adults reporting they have a Facebook account. And that 95% of young adults aged 18-24 were on Facebook. I chose this moment because it shows that a lot of Canadians are now on social media more than ever before. This may lead to people not being able to connect in real life or lead to social anxiety.
