Gandhi married Kasturbai Makhianji when he was 14 years old. It was an arranged child marriage.

When Gandhi was 15 years old, his first child was born, but the baby only survived a few days.

Gandhi accepted a year long contract from Dada Abdulla & Company which is an Indian Law Firm while he was in Durban, South Africa. He was angered by how Indian immigrants were treated and joined struggle to get basic rights for them. He spent 20 years in South Africa where he developed his political views, ethics and political leadership skills, He was sent to prison many times while in South Africa.

While he was in South Africa, he began Satyagraha Campaign to protest fingerprinting Indians and making them carry ID cards. Satyagraha was a new non-violent way to redress wrongs.

Gandhi returned to India permanently.

Gandhi attended a World War I Conference in Delhi.

Gandhi became a major leader in Congress. He transformed the Indian National Congress and had boycotts of British goods and institutions. Thousands were arrested.

Gandhi was sentenced to prison for six years. He was let out after two years and withdrew from politics. He tried to improve Hindu-Muslim relations.

Gandhi proclaimed a new campaign of civil disobedience to protest tax on salt. Thousands participated in a "March to the Sea" to make their own salt from the seawater.

Gandhi attended the Round Table Conference in London. He represented the Indian National Congress. He signed the Irwin Pact with Lord Irwin to suspend Civil Disobediance Movement.

Three attempts were made on Gandhi's life. He resigned from from the Indian National Congress to protest it. He was replaced by Jawaharial Nehru.
