John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion
John Calvin published a book that expressed his ideas about God, salvation and human nature. -

Jesuit order founded
Ignatius of Loyola wrote a book sharing his ideas of prayer, meditation, and study called the "Spiritual Excersizes". This book caused him to gain many followers known as Jesuits. In 1540, he created a religious order called Society of Jesuits. Jesuits had three missions, to build schools, covert people to Catholicism, and stop spread of protestants. Pope Paul III approved the Jesuit order. -

Start of Roman Inquisition
The Popes used the inquisition to search and investigate people who were being accused of being heresies, violators of religious beliefs, so they can prosecute them. -

Council of Trent
The council of Trent agreed on several doctorines, and they were a strong base of religious beliefs. They stated the Church's interruption of Bible was final and anyone who disagreed was a heretic, that you needed faith and good works for salvation, bible and tradition were equally powerful, and indulgences were ok, but they can not be sold. -

Peace of Augsburg
An agreement created by German princes which allowed every prince to pick whether they wanted to follow Lutheran or Catholic. -

Reign of Queen Elizabeth I
Elizabeth created the Anglican Church to combine the Catholic and Protestant relgion, and she was the head of this church. Anglican Church was a combination, so it held true to the beliefs of both religions, such as priests can marry for protestant, and the services were done while priests wore rich robes for Catholics. -

Scotland becomes Calvinist
John Knox, a Scottish preacher, followed the ideas of Calvinism very tightly, and spread it through Scotland. The followers became known as Presbyterians, and calvinism became the religion of Scotland. -

St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre
In France, calvinists started to have problems with the Catholics, so on the morning of St. Bartholomew's Day, catholics hunted protestants through France. This fight did not end rather it continued for six months, and over 12,000 people may have died. -
Edict of Nantes
To stop issues between the Calvinists in France, Huguenots, Henry of Navarre converted to Catholic. In 1598, Henry made the Edict of Nantes to give religious freedom to Protestants.
