Civil War Begins
The Civil War begins when the South attacks the Union's Fort Sumter. Suprisingly, there were no casualties, but a white flag was seen flying over the Fort and the Sount ceased fire. The South wins. -
Battle of Bull Run
Picnickers watched what they thought would be the end of the battle, but it wasn't. It let America really know what the war would be like. Stonewall Jackson lead the Rebel Charge. The South Wins -
Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was the first battle in Union territory. It was the bloodiest one day battle, where at least one person died every 2 seconds. It brought a new reality of war to the people. The battle only lasted 12 hours, so that is a bum load of dead people. Union Victory. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This was an act that my man Abe Lincoln made to try to free slaves. But, unfortunately, this act freed no one. But there were some up-sides to this. It gave the Northern states something to fight for (giving freedom to all!). This act also stopped foreign assistance from going to the South. -
Gettysburg
This war was THE turning point in the war. The Union creamed the South and it gave the North a huge moral boost and they realized that what they were fighting for was right. 50,000 died. The South tried to charge but it failed, thus allowing the North to pown the South. -
Vicksburg 09
The Vicksburg battle was pretty long. It was more that 40 days long. The North fulfilled an "Anaconda Plan" which involved encirceling the South and killing them all. It worked. This was a huge victory for the North because they could now control the Mississippi River, and stop the South from using it. -
Appomattox
The Appomattox included the surrender of the South. General Lee showed up to suffer the traditional consequences of a losing commander. He was to be hanged or get punished on by other people. But General Grant was so kind to tip his hat and let General Lee go and be free without suffering the consequences. This was an important event in the Civil War because it symbolized the end of the war, and also that both the North and the South want to "be one" again.
