I believe the able to write programmable code if limited was one of the most important event for anyone in the tech world. Being able to write code and have a computer execute said code made IT as big as it is today. -

Plankalkül was the first high-level programming language to be designed for a computer. A high-level programming language is a programming language with strong abstraction from the details of the computer. This made developing a program simpler and more understandable.
