Millennial

  • Millennial

I belong to the millennial generation. I recall a time when there was widespread concern about technology advancing too rapidly, and fears that computers would take over the world. This period was marked by the phenomenon known as Y2K, also referred to as the “millennium bug.”

    PlayStation 2
My younger sibling and I finally scraped together enough cash to snag ourselves a PlayStation 2. Being a huge RPG fan, I was totally blown away by what this console had to offer. The graphics were mind-blowing, and I remember thinking, “This is it. This is the future of gaming.”

    My first laptop
I have a vivid memory of going with my dad to the Gateway store. He purchased a Gateway Solo 1200 laptop, for the entire family to use. The laptop OS was Windows ME. When it was my turn to use the laptop, I found myself obsessed by the media player. It had a variety of themes to choose from, and I was particularly drawn to one named ‘Headspace’. Overall, the media player was a source of endless fun for me.

    My first iPod mini
I Scored my first iPod mini for my birthday, a cool pink one. I was so happy that I didn’t have to drag my beat-up CD player in freshman year of high school. Figuring out how to add music to that iPod was a struggle. Didn’t even know what MP3s were! Luckily, a buddy of mine in freshman year showed me the ropes with LimeWire, and I was good to go.
  • My first phone

    My first phone
After high school, I got my first cell phone - a Sanyo DLX 8500. Back in the day, people used to compare it to a generic Motorola RZR. I was all about T9 texting on this phone, which is pretty much the old-school version of today’s swipe texting. I was so quick with T9 that I even entered a fun little competition at a local coffee shop. Ended up landing in 4th place.

    Into the virtual world.
During the pandemic, I purchase an Oculus Quest 2 for my family. One of the features that piqued my interest prior to the purchase was the option to buy prescription lenses. These could be conveniently swapped with the default lenses that come with the Oculus, enhancing the user experience.
