Military inovations

  • The Springfield model 1795 musket

    The Springfield model 1795 musket
The standard musket for the American army. This gun was a copy of a French musket made in 1863. It had a 15 inch bayonet. The carbon buildup and non rifled barrel lead to an inaccurate shot, but the army believed it was accurate. This musket was cheap and strong and proved to be the best fit for every army member.
  • Starr Sabers

    Starr Sabers
The Starr sabers were sabers provided to the Dragoons and other Calvary groups. They were mostly similar to the Rose sabers, which were the other sabers provided. The Starr sabers, however, had a leather scabbard. This made the sword lighter and it took better care of the sword.
  • The USS Constitution

    The USS Constitution
The USS Constitution and its sister ships had high density wooden timbers that made up it's hull. The strength of the hull of this ship earned it the nickname, "old ironsides". The ships also had a new material for their sails that allowed them to use the air much better. The invoations from this ship and its sisters gave many sea battles to the United States and arguably was the biggest factor in U.S victory.
  • The Harpers Ferry 1803 rifle

    The Harpers Ferry 1803 rifle
This is the first gun to use rifling inside the barrel. This lead to a more accurate shot but, it took longer to load and needed to be cleaned more. This gun, however, had a shortened barrel so it would have to be cleaned less often. This was a great rifle for regiments that wanted a more accurate shot from their muskets.
  • The 1805 rifled flintlock pistol

    The 1805 rifled flintlock pistol
This is the first rifled handgun. This was heavily used by cavalry members and horseback soldiers. The design for this gun was essentially the Harper's ferry model 1803 with a smaller barrel and smaller stock. This was a very effective pistol that was accurate and light.
